The White House administration has released an official thematic page dedicated to researching the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. The material directly states that the virus emerged as a result of a laboratory leak. The conclusions of the publication rely on the final report of the U.S. House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The authors of the document cite five key arguments in favor of the laboratory version:
- Unique biological structure: the coronavirus possesses a feature not found in natural strains.
- Single pathogen: all recorded cases of the disease originate from a single source, which distinguishes COVID-19 from previous pandemics.
- Geographical location: Wuhan is home to China's leading institute of virology, which has extensive experience in researching SARS.
- Early symptoms in scientists: the first cases of illness with COVID-19 symptoms were recorded among employees of the Wuhan Institute as early as the autumn of 2019 — several months before the outbreak at the seafood market.
- Lack of natural evidence: in the time that has passed since the start of the pandemic, scientists have failed to find convincing evidence of the virus's natural origin.
- A separate section of the investigation is dedicated to financial accountability. The activities of the EcoHealth Alliance corporation, headed by Dr. Peter Daszak, were at the center of attention.
According to the report, the organization used U.S. taxpayers' funds to finance research on virus modification in Wuhan.
Following the discovery of violations of the terms of the grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services suspended funding for EcoHealth Alliance and initiated the procedure for final grant revocation. Concurrently, the U.S. Department of Justice opened an investigation into the corporation's activities during the pandemic.
At the same time, analysts note that the released materials primarily reflect the official political stance of the U.S. administration. There is still no single consensus among the global scientific community regarding the origin of COVID-19, and U.S. intelligence agencies remain divided in their assessments, operating with low-confidence conclusions. However, the publication of this stance at the White House level has already significantly shifted the frame of the international discussion surrounding the origins of the pandemic.

— Psychologist Anhelina Tymchenko:
"Look, before us is a vivid example of how the convictions of millions of people are changing right before our eyes. Remember: just a couple of years ago, any talk about a laboratory and a leak was perceived as pure madness or conspiracy theory, for which social networks ruthlessly blocked accounts. And what do we see today? This is already the official narrative of the White House. Here is the classic shift of that very 'Overton window' in action, when what was considered marginal becomes mainstream and an accepted position.
And here it is very important to notice one thing: politics simply outpaced science. Intelligence is still hesitating, scientists do not have a single opinion, but this stops no one. Why? Because the goal of such statements is not so much to find the absolute truth as to relieve social tension, appease the demand for finding the guilty, and, of course, solve geopolitical tasks.
Notice how precisely they hit through the topic of money — all these accents on grants and EcoHealth Alliance. And from the point of view of perception, this is an absolute bullseye! Explaining complex mechanisms of virus mutation to people is a hopeless cause; the psyche quickly gets tired of abstract formulas. But the waste of tax dollars is very clear, painful, and triggers an immediate emotion. As a result, society receives specific culprits in a familiar financial plane.
Thanks to this, the White House has effectively re-framed the entire conversation. We were imperceptibly moved from the vague question 'Could the virus have come from a laboratory at all?' to a much more convenient one: 'And who is going to answer for this now?'. And such a shift of focus acts on the mass consciousness much more strongly than any dry facts."
